Bluefield, VA
The Hatfield & McCoy Dinner Show is always excited about opportunities to go out and mingle with friendly folks from different communities. On July 17th that community happened to be Bluefield, Va where we found ourselves hosting the Bluefield Bluejays as they took on their cross town rivals from Princeton, WV in the first installment of the coveted “Mercer Cup Series”.
Bringing up cast, crew and musicians from the show is no easy task but we aim to please and “pleasin’” is exactly what happened as "Too Slow" Hatfield and "Eustice" McCoy shot Hatfield & McCoy t-shirts into the crowds with custom made air cannons. "Ma" and "Maizy" treated the kids to pop-guns and baseball caps at the Hatfield & McCoy cabin while Mayor Timothy P. Riley and young flat picker Chance banged out a bevy of bluegrass standards.
The evening began with the first pitch being thrown out by Russ Hatfield, a descendant of “Devil” Anse himself and inevitably the Bluejays brought home a victory. The most surprising aspect of the night’s game for the folks from the show were the hordes of fans that brought their family portrait from the theater itself and requested autographs from those of us fortunate enough to be there. It was truly an inspiring evening and we would like to extend our sincere gratitude to the City of Bluefield and the Bluejays organization for being such wonderful hosts.
